Process Art

At Growing Little Loves we believe every child is an artist. We value process art and believe in each child's inherent ability to know what to do with art materials.

Process art centers on the freedom to create (often time in unexpected ways), explore and wonder. Open-ended in nature, there is not a right or wrong way to engage with materials, thus process art allows for possibilities and the celebration of uniqueness. Process art allows children to trust themselves and gain confidence by following their own interests and instincts. This type of creative thinking leads to the development of observational skills, awareness, intention, risk-taking and ultimately, growth.

Process art is developmentally appropriate for babes, toddlers and preschoolers (and older kiddos too!) by allowing children to make their own choices at a time in their lives when they often don't have much control over their day to day.

"Toddlers won't always use the art materials the way you think they should be used but that's okay! Encourage exploration of materials and offer them over and over again. Repetition, as with many things at this age, builds skills and confidence in children."
